About Maxim
I have a degree in psychology from Amherst College, one of the top 3 liberal arts colleges in the United States. I am currently participating in a fellowship at the Ecole Normale Supérieure where I study Cognitive Science.
I am Belgian-American so I speak French and English natively.
While studying at Amherst, I was an English teacher for international students with a limited command of English. I taught these students how to write clear and effective essays. I planned short lessons each week to focus on specific parts of their writing and I edited their articles, clearly explaining where they were making mistakes.

Since I mainly teach English to people who already have an intermediate level, that means that my students already have certain strengths and weaknesses. I find it really important to specialize the lessons so that it meets the personal needs of the student.
For students who need help with their oral expression and comprehension, I find it useful to imitate real-life scenarios. For example, I could ask one of my students to imagine that we are on a job interview and that I am interviewing them. As the exercise progresses, I would explain where they make mistakes and how to avoid them in the future.
For students who need help reading and writing. I could, for example, ask my student to read an article before class and write a response of a few paragraphs. In class, we would reread the article together, identifying the new vocabulary, and we would read the student's response together and modify it if necessary.
