The most effective way to achieve grades in GCSE and A level is to follow mark schemes and appeal to examiners, but this should not limit a students intellectual creativity. Once you understand how each English essay is structured like a paint-by-numbers activity, not only does every essay become easy, but it has room for independent thought and developed ideas. I will show that you don’t have to sacrifice being creative while appealing to examiners. If exam technique is not the issue, which it often is for Lit students, I will approach learning ideas as more understanding-based than memory-based, and provide free resources that aid the learning of certain topics.
