About Vivian
I am currently a second year Linguistics student at UCL and have been tutoring adult beginner Mandarin since last year. I am new at tutoring last year, but this year I have developed a more mature lesson plan.
I am born in Hong Kong and Cantonese is my first language. However, I have lived in mainland China for 11 years, therefore, Mandarin is actually my most fluent language.
I learnt Mandarin just like any beginner by starting with PinYin and in a mainland China local school. I have no regional accent at all, so do not worry about Mandarin not being my first language.

I will like to teach Mandarin beginner across all ages. I only teach oral Mandarin and do not cover written Chinese.
Firstly, I will like the student to understand what are the tones and PinYin system, which are the two essential components of Mandarin.
Next, I have arranged vocabularies in terms of different topics. Topics may vary according to student's needs, but majority will be related to daily life.
The aim in the long term is to be able to have simple ongoing conversations in different topics and type in PinYin if necessary.
My teaching philosophy is to make sure all my students truly enjoy and like learning Mandarin, so I hope my lessons are useful and at the same time, enjoyable.
