About Alex
Hi there, I'm Alex :) I am 23 years old, and currently studying my final year in BEng Acoustical Engineering here in Manchester. As such, I have a comprehensive background in Maths, Computer Science, Physics and Music. I grew up in East London, and after working in the audio engineering field, moved to Manchester to progress my knowledge and love of engineering, sciences, arts, and the way they intersect. I have always enjoyed teaching myself and others! I find it's the best way to learn a subject; through conversation and engagement - with learning going both ways. This feeds in to my general teaching style: I will make the utmost effort to be engaging and attentive to the needs and learning style of a student, whilst balancing and guiding any weaknesses or areas that need improvement. I don't want to paint myself as a star student, for many years I struggled with focus and structure in my learning. However, over time I have developed my own set of strategies to help me turn my passion in to academic success and I only hope I can help my student to do the same :) I am chatty, patient and a strong believer in positive reinforcement and using caution when approaching rote learning. I am happy to chat further, cheers! Alex. Alex gave me weekly, in person guitar lessons, helping me get to grips with basic chord patterns, major and minor, as well as the theory and understanding of how these chords were made. He gave me exercises to strengthen my fingers with and I have since developed different strumming patterns and progressed to more complex chords and to playing songs. I had some previous experience playing flute and piano (up to diploma and grade 8 level respectively) but guitar was a totally different venture for me which Alex made very easy to approach, always very encouraging and excited when I achieved something or when a new understanding ‘clicked’ into place.
