About Travis

Hello! I am an Alberta Certified Teacher based in Okotoks. I know that for many students, staring at a textbook or a screen can feel overwhelming. My job is to turn that anxiety into confidence.

As a current online school teacher, I am an expert at connecting with students remotely. I use a "concept-first" approach—we talk through the problems, draw them out on a digital whiteboard, and solve them together step-by-step. I am patient, encouraging, and I know the Alberta curriculum inside and out.

My Background: I hold a B.Sc. from Mount Royal University and a B.Ed. from St. Mary's University. I have a passion for working one-on-one with students to help them have those "Aha!" moments.

About the lesson

My methodology is built on the belief that students learn Math and Science best by doing, not just watching. As an Alberta Certified Teacher specializing in remote education, I use an interactive 'Guided Practice' approach.

We start by breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. Then, we immediately apply that knowledge to practice problems together. I use a professional digital whiteboard that allows the student to see exactly what I am writing in real-time, just like I was sitting next to them. This creates an active learning environment where we 'talk through' the logic of every step, ensuring the student understands the why behind the answer, not just the formula.

Each session is tailored to the student's immediate needs, but generally follows this successful structure:

The Check-In (5 mins): We review any difficult homework questions or confusing topics from their school week to set a clear goal for the session.

Concept Clarity (15 mins): I use visual aids and real-world examples to explain the core concept we are tackling, filling in any gaps in their foundational knowledge.

Collaborative Problem Solving (30 mins): This is the core of the lesson. We work through problems ranging from basic to Diploma-level difficulty. I use the 'I do, We do, You do' technique to gradually build their confidence.

Review & Next Steps (10 mins): We summarize the key takeaways and I assign optional practice questions to reinforce what we learned."

Unlike many tutors who are still students themselves, I am a professionally employed Alberta Certified Teacher currently teaching at an online school. This means:
