Communication: I communicate with colleagues, members and employers on a regular basis. I use verbal and written communication to convey messages, answer questions, educate their members about their rights and responsibilities and resolve issues. I also communicate with our employer to negotiate contracts and discuss grievances.

Negotiation: As a Union leader I often use negotiation skills to help members reach agreements with their employer, and also use my negotiation skills to help reach agreements with other unions.
Leadership: Union leaders are responsible for representing their members and ensuring they receive the benefits they deserve. This often involves negotiating with employers and other union representatives. My Leadership skills can help me navigate complex situations and make decisions that benefit my members.

Teamwork: I often work with other union representatives to negotiate with employers. This requires a strong ability to work with others and compromise. I also work with our National Executive and Governance Group members to develop strategies for improving the union and its members’ working conditions.

Problem-solving: I often have to solve problems for union members. This means I may need to negotiate with the employer to find solutions to workplace disputes or find ways to help employees who are struggling financially. I also need to solve problems between members, such as when employees disagree about a new contract.
