About Simon

I know from personal experience how hard learning a language can be because when I moved to Germany I could not speak the language at all. It was a confronting time as I struggled to learn from the beginning. One valuable lesson I learned is how important it is to stay in control of the conversation. I teach this to all my students in the first few lessons, because it will improve your confidence a lot when navigating through the real world. I will listen to you, assess your language needs, and design unique lessons just for you. I did this for twelve years in Germany and am an expert in this field. I will also want to learn a little about your language, especially the grammar, because then I can identify why you make certain mistakes and fix them first of all. If you are an advanced learner, I will concentrate on vocal clarity, pronunciation, and ironing out the little mistakes, in addition to advanced English idioms and sounding natural. My 35 years as an actor, director, and writer have given me skills which I transfer into my English teaching. I would love to work with you and make your English the best it can be!

About the lesson

In Germany I used drama and improvisation skills in the classroom because learning a language and drama use similar skills; you have to take risks, you have to laugh at mistakes, and you learn more when you're having fun! My technique has been proven in Germany with the English language, and I use it here in Australia to teach German through the Victorian Education Department.

My lessons run for 60 minutes and include discussion, improvisation, voice exercises for pronunciation, grammar, and reading. I will work with you to understand exactly what aspect of English you need to improve and write small scripts to assist this process. I am very flexible and adapt to various learning styles.

Qualifications include: Bachelors in Creative Writing and Literature, Cert IV in Training and Assessment, Graduate Diploma in Theatre, and Adam Darius Mime Centre, London.

I can teach any age or level of experience from beginners to business people who wish to polish their skills for presentations and speeches.
