About Miriam
Bonjour! I'm Miriam, a Qualified Secondary MFL Teacher (QTS) with a PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages, a Master's Degree in Language Pedagogy (Distinction), and a Bachelor's degree in French Language, Literature and Professional Translation.
What makes my teaching different is that I'm passionate about understanding how students learn languages—not just teaching them.
For my Master's dissertation, I conducted research into Foreign Language Learning Anxiety (FLLA), exploring why many students lose confidence when speaking a new language and how teachers can create a classroom where learners feel comfortable making mistakes and taking risks. My research led me to design practical strategies that help students build confidence alongside their language skills—an approach I bring into every lesson.
Having learnt several languages myself, including Spanish, French, Russian, and English, I understand first-hand the challenges of memorising vocabulary, mastering grammar, and gaining the confidence to speak. That's why my lessons are supportive, engaging, and tailored to each student's individual needs.
I have experience teaching languages in UK secondary schools, preparing students for GCSE examinations, and supporting A-Level French learners. Whether you're aiming for a top grade, preparing for speaking exams, or simply looking to strengthen your skills, I'll help you develop the knowledge, confidence, and exam techniques needed to succeed.
My goal is not only to help you achieve excellent results but also to help you enjoy learning Spanish and feel confident using it both inside and outside the classroom.

I tailor every lesson to the student's individual needs, whether they're building a strong foundation in Key Stage 3 (KS3), preparing for GCSE exams, or developing the advanced language skills.
For KS3 students, I focus on developing confidence, expanding vocabulary, and strengthening grammar through engaging, interactive activities that encourage students to use French from the very first lesson.
For GCSE students, lessons are designed around the exam specification, helping students master the four key skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while building the exam techniques needed to achieve their target grades.
For A-level students, I provide support with more complex grammar, essay writing, translation, literary and cultural topics, and speaking exam preparation, helping students communicate with greater fluency and accuracy.
My lessons may include:
- Personalised lesson plans based on your goals and current level.
- Interactive speaking activities to build confidence and fluency.
- Clear, easy-to-understand grammar explanations.
- Vocabulary learning using real-life and exam-based topics.
- Exam practice with past paper questions and mark scheme guidance.
- Regular retrieval practice and revision to strengthen long-term memory.
- Constructive feedback and practical tips to help you improve between lessons.
