About Davies

Teaching guitar to school and college students for the past 9 years has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I’ve had the privilege of helping students of all skill levels explore their musical potential and develop a deep connection to the guitar. My approach to teaching combines a solid foundation in music theory with practical skills and creative exercises. This ensures that students not only learn how to play but also understand the theory behind the music they’re playing. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching guitar is watching students gain confidence in their abilities. I had the honour of helping a group of students form a band, and together, they played in local festivals, a milestone that marked a significant moment in their musical journey. Witnessing their growth and seeing how far they came, from tentative players to confident performers, was truly inspiring. The power of music to build confidence, focus, and emotional expression in students is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about teaching guitar. I’ve seen how learning music can foster discipline, perseverance, and a sense of accomplishment in students, and I believe that these qualities extend far beyond the guitar. I work hard to create a nurturing environment where students feel empowered to explore their creativity and develop a genuine love for music that lasts a lifetime.

About the lesson

Every student’s musical journey is unique, and as a guitar teacher with over nine years of experience and a degree in Music Education, I am dedicated to creating a personalised learning experience for each student. I start by focusing on the fundamentals—building strength, rhythm, hand positioning, and fretboard knowledge—so that students can play with ease and comfort. Once these skills are established, I tailor lessons to the student’s musical preferences, whether they are interested in learning their favourite songs, studying classical pieces, or exploring genres like jazz or rock. I also emphasise the importance of music theory, making it practical by integrating it into the songs students are learning. Theory helps students understand why music works the way it does and enhances their creativity. For those interested in improvisation or songwriting, I provide exercises to develop their skills and inspire new ideas. Performance preparation is also key—whether the student is playing for fun or preparing for a recital, I help them refine their technique and gain confidence. Additionally, I embrace modern tools like metronomes, tuners, and interactive software to keep students engaged and on track with their progress, ensuring a well-rounded and enjoyable learning experience.
