About Lewis
I'm Lewis, a committed and enthusiastic tutor specializing in History. I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History at Durham University, an esteemed institution known for its academic excellence. My educational journey at Durham has been filled with valuable experiences and opportunities.
Throughout my time at Durham, I actively engaged in various activities and societies, which enriched my understanding of the subjects and expanded my horizons. As the Treasurer of Femsoc, I had the privilege of promoting gender equality and fostering a supportive community. Additionally, I served as both the Cuth's librarian and Senior Welfare Officer, where I developed strong organizational and leadership skills while supporting the welfare of my fellow students. I also represented the student body as a Raise Representative, advocating for important causes and contributing to positive change within the university. On a lighter note, I enjoyed being a part of Cuth's Swimming, where I stayed active and fostered teamwork.
My academic journey at Durham University provided me with a comprehensive understanding of history through a range of modules. In my first year, I explored captivating topics such as the struggles between people and the state, radicalism in Victorian Britain, and the complexities of Latin Christendom. During my second year, I delved into significant historical events including the Third American Revolution, the impact of the New Deal, and the Nazi Dictatorship's influence on culture and society. Currently, in my third year, I am undertaking a challenging 60-credit module on the American Civil War and Reconstruction and conducting a double module dissertation focusing on the Gay-Jewish experience of persecution in Nazi Germany. Additionally, I am studying Progressive Thought in Nineteenth-Century Britain, examining ideas of liberty, equality, and democracy.
My diverse experiences and comprehensive knowledge make me well-equipped to guide and support students in their study of History. I am dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive and achieve their full potential.
