About Rachel
I am a first grade teacher at a public school in NYC. I am interested in working with students from pre-k through second grade. I love teaching phonics, reading, and writing. My students, including those I have tutored, have moved several reading levels quickly.
I have always wanted to be a teacher and began teaching kindergarten as soon as I graduated college.
I have a degree in early childhood and childhood education from SUNY Cortland. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in literacy from SUNY Oneonta.

I begin by doing a few assessments such as finding out if a student knows their letters and sounds, having them write a few words, and testing their reading level. I also get a feel for their stamina, energy levels, and attention span.
