About Robin
I'm Robin, a physics master's student at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in particle physics. Outside my degree I study widely: maths, philosophy, languages, music and drawing. I like seeing how ideas connect, and that curiosity shapes how I teach. I try to make subjects feel less like a pile of rules and more like one coherent picture. Explaining something is the best way to understand it properly, and I love the moment when a student's confusion turns into "oh, that makes sense." I remember how much a clear explanation helps when a topic isn't clicking, and I want to be that for others. Teaching also keeps my own fundamentals sharp. I was a peer tutor in my high school for one year teaching pre-GCSE content.

I teach for intuition first: before any formula, we work out why an idea makes sense, using pictures, everyday analogies and questions you can answer yourself. Once the concept clicks, the maths becomes much easier to remember and apply. I adapt to your pace, and I'm happy to go back over foundations without any judgement.

I am Dr Benjamin Wynne MA MSci (cantab), lecturer in Particle Physics at Edinburgh University and long-time member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN. I am Robin's academic advisor at the University of Edinburgh and consequently have known him since he started here.
Robin is a talented 3rd year student on our Theoretical Physics Masters degree programme. He chose the most challenging "direct entry" route, starting his degree with 2nd year courses, and received excellent grades - particularly in Mathematical and Programming topics. To do this requires real motivation and organisation, not just skill in the subject area itself (although clearly he has plenty of this as well).
In person I find Robin clear and concise when expressing ideas, and I expect him to be an excellent tutor, just as I have no doubt he will continue to be a great student.I've known Robin for 1 year since we met at a calculus problem-solving workshop. I have seen him explain concepts very thoroughly, and he does not settle for only explaining an individual question. His aim is for his students to have a sense of clarity in their work. His approach to teaching is very inclusive and allows for a deeper understanding of the topic. Rather than just stating a formula or giving a general process that could be used every time, for example, he creates a picture and explains intuitively the problem at hand. As a result, when the maths is taught in such a context, it makes a lot more sense and feels more natural than just memorizing whatever is written in a textbook. He is also incredibly patient and considerate of people having different needs or preferences in the way they are taught. His flexibility allows him to be able to explain the same topic in different ways so that the student can grasp the concept rather than relying on rote learning.
Robin is a theoretical physics student at the University of Edinburgh, and as his peer, I have seen his enthusiasm for maths and science, both in his studies and beyond them. He strives for a proper appreciation of what he is learning, and this is reflected in his teaching.
