About Natasha

Hi I am Natasha. I am a current 3rd year Medical Student at the University of Leeds. Next year I will be intercalating in an Applied Health (Medical Education) degree, providing me to combine my two favourite passions; medicine and teaching.
I have always been passionate about Medicine and Science. I love how I can learn something new everyday about the world around us. I find studying Medicine as a hobby if anything, as it is a combination of learning the subject I love with interacting and helping people each day. Even after 3 years, I am yet to find it boring as I am willing to do another 3 more years! Applying to medicine, I have had my fair share of exams and understand thoroughly the application process and techniques required for students to succeed.I have also done two university admission tests: BMAT and UKCAT. Additionally I have done several University interviews.At University, I volunteer as a WAMS (widening access to medical school) mentor which involves communicating with year 12/13 students, answering any questions they have about applying to medicine.I am also part of the medical badminton society and love to play tennis and the piano in my spare time.

About the lesson

Still being a student, I realise that I learn best when I am not afraid of saying ‘I don’t understand’ or asking silly questions in order to understand the concept completely. Therefore, as a tutor I want to create an environment where the student feels comfortable to ask any questions and get things wrong. I genuiely believe that mistakes is one of the best opportunities to learn and we can work together to make sure they do not get it worng again. Furthermore, over the years I have come to realise that most exams are deemed difficult based on the quantity of content to memorise, rather than the difficulty of the topic. Therefore, I want to help my students understand the basic fundamentals of the concept topic, making it easier for them to memorise. This is a technique I still continue to use in Medicine today. I am a very empathetic and passionate person therefore, I genuinely want to motivate and encourage every one of my student to reach their best academic potential.I myself have had tutors in the past and so I understand what teaching techniques work well and what do not.
The structure of lessons will first start off highlighting any key areas that the student would like some help with. I will then explain it to them in simple terms and diagrams and to ensure they understand it it, I would like the students to then explain it back to me. Then to consolidate, we will do past paper questions based on the topic we went over. I believe past questions should be a students best friend. I will also plan my lessons so there is an element of active recall of information we have learnt previously to further consolidate knowledge.
