About Sophie

I’m a 19-year-old first-year medical student with a genuine passion for both academics and sport.

I’ve always wanted to become a tutor because I truly understand what it feels like to struggle with learning. Throughout my education, I worked with several tutors, and I often left lessons still feeling unsure — even if I didn’t say it. I’m someone who needs to fully understand a concept before I feel confident using it.

In the past, I would sometimes say I understood something simply because I felt embarrassed to admit I didn’t. That experience has completely shaped the way I want to teach.

Having been through the system recently myself, I know the difference between being talked at and being properly taught. I also understand how frustrating it can be when your effort doesn’t seem to match your results. I used to spend hours rewriting notes and over-learning content, which was incredibly time-consuming. Yet when it came to exams, I sometimes struggled to clearly express what I actually knew.

Over time, I realised that success isn’t just about working harder — it’s about finding the most effective learning way for you. To be honest, I was far from the stereotypical “top of the class” student throughout school. For much of my academic journey, I would have described myself as a very average student. But I now see that as one of my greatest strengths. I don’t understand things instantly — I understand them by breaking them down properly. Because of that, I’ve learned how to explain complex concepts in a simple, structured and clear way.

I’m passionate about helping students discover the learning approach that genuinely works for them. I strongly believe that the right strategy builds both progress and confidence. My goal as a tutor is to create a supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, admitting when they’re unsure, and developing real understanding — the kind that turns hard work into strong exam performance.

Having recently completed A-levels myself, I understand the pressures students face and what examiners are looking for. Being dyslexic, I’ve developed clear, simple, and creative ways of breaking down complex topics, which allows me to explain content in a way that’s easy to understand and remember.

My teaching will involve asking the student to rate every topic in the subject on a scale of difficulty so we can systematically tackle each one in that order.

Starting with their understanding, I know the feeling of coming out of a lesson and being stressed because you didn't understand it at all, not one word went in! This is where I come in. I have all my notes available that I can share or go through so you can make your own or use mine.

Once the content is down I am a big believer in answering question after question until you can nearly do it in your sleep, so when the exam comes round answering the paper is like second nature. So past paper questions specified to your exam board would be a large part of my teaching.

I believe that every student is different and therefore their mind and speed of learning all varies. No matter how many times or how many different ways a concept needs to be explained I am here to listen and keep on going until it clicks.
