About Danielle

I am in my second year studying Natural Sciences at Sidney Sussex College, University of Cambridge. I have a passion for science, particularly stem cell biology, and aim to become a research scientist someday. I am from Douglas, on the Isle of Man (a small island in between England and Ireland).

I find tutoring very rewarding, particularly when both myself and my students are proud of what they have achieved. I also enjoy seeing my students' confidence grow as they complete questions they couldn't previously. Every so often students will encounter a topic they are particularly interested in and it is very fulfilling to see their enthusiasm and excitement about the subject - especially if I have the same interest.

I achieved an A* in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Further Mathematics at A Level. At GCSE I studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science, English Language, Mandarin Chinese, English Literature, History, Global Perspectives, and RS (short course).

About the lesson

At the beginning of every lesson I will ask the student if there is anything in particular they would like to go through during the session or anything they have found difficult in school / their revision. I aim to create an encouraging supportive environment for my students. I always want my students to know it is okay to get things wrong as this is a big part of how we learn.
My prepared lessons are usually based on topics my students are focusing on in school, or recaps of topics they may have forgotten. I often begin the lesson with simpler questions to work through the foundation / method with the student. The questions then increase in difficulty as the student becomes more comfortable with the content and gains confidence. By the end of the lesson I aim for the student to be completing past exam questions / exam-style questions to prepare students for how they will encounter these topics in topic tests/exams. At the end of a lesson I will work out with my student what we will cover next time.
My lessons are usually an hour long but these can be flexible and tailored to the student. I have previously run exam revision sessions with students which have lasted up to 3hrs.
I have tutored students from Year 6 to Year 9 in Mathematics and tutored Year 11 students in Science and Maths (through volunteering in the Peer Mentoring programme). I am willing to tutor students from Year 7 to Year 13.
