About Lauren

My name is Lauren Roach, and I hold an honors degree of a Bachelor of Elementary Education K-6 conferred from West Virginia University on August 11th of 2023. I hold an educational background from high school (from taking Early Childhood Education courses for two years). I have taught in Virginia professionally for a year, in West Virginia for two years professionally, and four years total including my student teaching and residency in West Virginia. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have grown as an educator and an individual greatly. I have been on the dean's list three times (Spring 2021, Fall 2021, Fall 2022) and the president’s list once (Spring 2022). Over the past three years, I have had the honor of teaching 1st and 2nd grade. Not only did I learn my personal teaching practices through my own active learning, I was also shown some insights to a deeper bond with students because I had the same group twice in West Virginia. Additionally, my transition into a rural community to urban has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of backgrounds and behaviors that has strengthened my skills as an educator. Throughout my three years I have come into possession of some strengths and skills such as patience, dedication, passion, advocacy, classroom bonds, flexibility, organization, conflict resolution skills, emotional intelligence, cultural competence, inclusive practices, knowledge of education tools, and a growth mindset. The students I had the honor to teach will always have a huge impact on my life, and I believe this will continue to grow with the future classes I have.

I have access to many resources from OG and UFLI which will be a primary resource for tutoring.

Some printouts may be necessary on the student end to fulfill lessons.

Assessments from OG may be done to determine the appropriate start level of your student to best suit their learning needs.

Below are direct quotes from the programs of the two main resources I will be utilizing:

"The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy to individuals for whom reading, writing, and spelling do not come easily, such as those with dyslexia. It is most properly understood and practiced as an approach, not a method, program, or system. In the hands of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility." ((concealed information)

"A Structured Literacy Solution for Every Classroom
The IMSE Orton-Gillingham Plus (OG+) Curriculum equips educators with the essential strategies, tools, and resources to effectively teach foundational literacy skills. Designed for seamless implementation across all Response to Intervention (RTI) tiers, OG+ provides explicit guidance on adjusting instructional scaffolds to support intervention, core instruction, and acceleration based on student needs. The curriculum also includes specialized resources to support English Learners, ensuring equitable access to effective literacy instruction.
Comprehensive Literacy Instruction
OG+ covers all critical components of structured literacy, including phonological awareness, phonics, word analysis, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. Embedded ongoing assessments allow educators to monitor student progress and make data-driven instructional decisions to meet the needs of all learners.
Daily Lesson Plans & Structured Routines
The OG+ Curriculum provides daily lesson plans and structured routines for key literacy components, ensuring consistent and effective instruction. Educators have access to step-by-step guidance for phoneme blending and segmenting, word chaining, cumulative review, spelling, reading, vocabulary, and interactive read-alouds that focus on oral language and comprehension.
A Flexible & Classroom-Ready Solution
Designed to be implemented in any instructional setting, OG+ gives teachers the tools they need to bring IMSE’s Structured Literacy-based foundational literacy skills curriculum to life. Whether working with emergent and beginning readers or supporting students who continue to develop word recognition skills, OG+ provides a research-backed, classroom-ready approach to literacy instruction." ((concealed information)

"The University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI – pronounced “you fly”) is an ongoing effort by UF faculty and students to improve literacy outcomes for struggling students by addressing two key areas: reader development and teacher development. UFLI began in 1998 as a tutoring model for struggling beginning readers, but it now encompasses a variety of literacy projects, including tutoring and instructional models for struggling readers, assistance to schools and school districts, and teacher education and professional development.
Reader Development programs focus on assessment, instruction, and intervention for students.
Teacher Development programs prepare preservice teachers and practicing educators to use evidence-based instructional practices to serve struggling readers. These programs include graduate coursework, school-based supports, and online professional learning experiences to reach teachers worldwide." ((concealed information)
