About Senan

I am a first-year medical student at UCC with a strong academic background and a particular interest in helping students become more confident in Irish.

I achieved 95% in Higher Level Leaving Cert Irish and received full marks, 240/240, in the oral examination. Having recently completed the Leaving Cert myself, I have a very current understanding of the course and of what is expected in both the oral and written exams.

I particularly enjoy helping students with the oral, as confidence and fluency can make a major difference. I understand that speaking Irish can be intimidating for many students, so I aim to create a relaxed environment where students can practice without feeling under pressure.

I also tutor HPAT students, which has given me experience teaching one-to-one, explaining concepts clearly, and adapting lessons to suit the individual student.

My goal is not only to help students improve their marks, but also to make Irish feel more manageable and to give them a clear strategy for approaching the exam.

About the lesson

My Irish lessons are tailored to the individual student, with a particular focus on helping students become more confident, natural and accurate in the oral exam.

I achieved 95% in Higher Level Leaving Cert Irish and received 240/240 in the oral exam. Because of this, I place a strong emphasis on oral preparation, particularly pronunciation, vocabulary and developing answers that sound natural rather than overly memorised.

For oral lessons, I aim to get the student speaking as much Irish as possible. We can practise common questions, improve answers they already have, work on pronunciation and fluency, and carry out mock oral exams so that the real exam feels much more familiar.

Lessons can also cover the written course where required, including grammar, essays, reading comprehension, poetry, prose and exam technique. My approach is practical and exam-focused, with lessons adapted to the student's current level and goals.

A typical lesson lasts around one hour.

These lessons are primarily aimed at secondary-school students, particularly Leaving Cert students preparing for Higher Level Irish and the oral examination, although lessons can also be adapted for younger students.
