About David
With The Guitar Guide, you will learn guitar theory (chords/scales and the Nashville Numbers System), american music standard progressions (blues/rock/jazz/pop), as well as artist tips & tricks! Lessons will be fun, as I like to teach a lesson, then incorporate at least 1 song to learn on day one. This makes practice more fun and allows the student to use their imaginations while learning!
A little about myself...
I've been playing music for almost 20 years now, and guitar for almost 10. I'm a native of South Carolina, and just moved to Los Angeles this past year. My specialty in guitar is the blues and rock/roll... emulating my style after the likes of B.B. King, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., etc. Prior to moving to LA, I played in a number of bands and traveled... but most noteable (and personal favorite) was the McKenzie Butler Band. You can find her and the band's music on Apple Music or Spotify.
The more I jammed and played with/for poeple, I would always get at least 1 person to ask me... "Can you give lessons?" After a few lessons, I soon fell in love with the sharing of knowlege. I love getting with people, young and old, who have a genuine love for music!

About the lesson

1st, I want to get to know the student. I want to know what type of music excites them.
2nd, Once we know what type of music the student likes, I move to guitar theory... primarily chords.
3rd, we show how chords make up songs. Then incorporate the lesson into a song for practice.
I've found that this is usually the best way to get students engaged in the guitar, and keep them engaged. Rather than just charts and scales, we start learning and playing their favorite songs on day 1!
We, as musicians, are always looking for new things to do... new sounds we can make. With that being said, I've worked with players from beginner, to Intermediate, to Advanced.
Dont look for a teacher that will just teach you guitar or music. Find the teacher that will engage your interest and imagination! I've sat with a number of people who've shown me some things on the guitar. Some were great! Others were so technical (at 1st) that it turns you off.
I love going to live music events and taking notes on all the professionals there. From the artists, to the musicians, to the stage crew. In the past year alone, I've been to see Joe Bonamossa, Gary Clark Jr., Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals, Roses & Cigarettes, Layla Hathaway, etc.

I'm very flexible with my schedule and am available to teach lessons online, as well as in person. My standard rate is $50 for an hour lesson. With this, your child will learn basic guitar theory (chords/scales), american music standard progressions (blues/rock/jazz/pop), as well as artist tips & tricks!
