About Evie

Hi, I'm Evie! I am a first year sociology student at Durham University. Prior to A-levels I would not have considered myself particularly academic but when I went to sixth form and started sociology and psychology (along with geography but we don't talk abt her...) I became far more interested in academics allowing me to ultimately achieve A*A*A in my final exams. I hope to be able to instill the same interest in the subjects that I found. My main interests aside from academics are cooking, climbing and keeping aquariums. I have gained some teaching experience from volunteering at a small cookery class for 8-13 year olds as well as helping out classmates with frantic last-minute revision. In the future I hope to go into university lecturing and sociological research specialising through gaining a masters degree and a PhD specialising in issues facing LGBTQ+ people.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on building up a robust mental framework (what we call schema in psychology) around the subject(s) that will allow you to gain more confidence in critically engaging with new information. I hope to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere in order to facilitate open discussions about your thoughts and opinions on the topics that we explore in a way that develops your use of language in a way that appeals to examiners. The content covered will be based on my comprehensive revision booklets I made during my own A-level studies.

In both psychology and sociology I offer lessons focused on exam technique and lessons covering the more substantive content of the two courses.

Sociology: I have benefited from my A-level sociology teacher being a lead examiner for AQA allowing me to gain insight into what examiners are looking for. Topics I teach are:
- Theory and methods
- Education
- Culture and identity
- Media
- Crime and deviance

Psychology: On multiple occasions during my A-levels, I achieved the highest mark in my cohort of well over 60 psychology students. Topics I teach are:
- Attachment
- Memory
- Social influence
- Psychopathology
- Approaches
- Research methods
- Biopsychology
- Schizophrenia
- Issues and debates
- Gender
- Forensic psychology

Starting lessons: Before beginning lessons, we can organise a short call to discuss your goals with receiving tuition and get to know me a little bit more. I can also have a meeting with your parent(s)/guardian(s) if they would like. If you decide, based on this, to pursue tuition with me, I will offer the first 'official' lesson for free
