About Nick
Having studied Philosophy at A-Level, during my Undergraduate in Durham, and having recently completed my Masters in an area of applied Ethics at KCL, I am well-versed in and extremely passionate about discussing and dissecting philosophical ideas, and want to share that passion with others. Philosophy and Ethics can often be complex, hard to read, and tough to conceptually grasp, which can make the subjects seem impenetrable to many people new to the area. I want to help change this and make philosophy and ethics accessible, simple, and comprehensible for everyone I tutor, and aim to not only provide a solid understanding of complex ideas, but also an ability to translate this understanding into quality written work that will achieve top grades.

I aim to offer individually tailored, two-fold support to students studying Philosophy and/or Ethics at Undergraduate, A-Level, and GCSE level. Simply put, my lessons have two main aims: to help develop a student's understanding of philosophical and ethical concepts and ideas, and to ensure that this understanding is effectively translated into a student's own written work.
My main aim is to ensure that students develop a grasp of the underlying philosophical concepts and ideas that are crucial to succeeding at all levels of academic philosophy. To achieve this I aim to present ideas and concepts which students may be struggling to grasp in a simple and straightforward manner, and attempt to foster a discussion of ideas in an open, conversational environment, in which understanding can organically develop and be healthily challenged. Where it would be useful, I am also more than happy to help read through and help in dissecting relevant literature, and I am also able to review or provide simplified summary notes on any key texts or concepts that are proving difficult to understand.
Secondly, I also aim to help to translate the understanding of philosophical ideas into fluent, critical, and well-structured philosophical writing, in order to ensure that students see tangible improvements in their graded, written work. Having just completed my Masters, and having previously attained a First in my undergraduate philosophy degree at Durham University, I feel comfortable providing such advice in regard to a wide range of philosophical issues, up to Undergraduate level, and I have a depth of first-hand experience in writing first-class essays relating to Ethics, Applied Ethics, Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Metaphysics, the History of Philosophy, and the History and Philosophy of Science. To help in this regard I am able to assist in formulating and structuring essay plans, and can also review essays and suggest areas of improvement in terms of content, structure, and style, in order to ensure that knowledge is being effectively translated into strong philosophical writing that will achieve top grades.
