Study medicine in New Zealand with a private tutor

Studying Medicine in Auckland

Studying medicine in Auckland is, as you might have imagined, challenging and very competitive. Students who want to start studies in medicine need to apply to a university such as The University of Auckland and ensure they meet their requirements.

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programs are quite limited and competitive. Your NCEA grades need to be at a high rank, besides other tests required by the university which need to be successful.

To make things a bit more challenging, in New Zealand there are only two places to apply as a first year of university in your path to medicine. These places are the University of Auckland - Health Science or Biomedicine, and the University of Otago - Health Sciences First Year.

The process from high school to first-year med school requires a standardised score. If you have achieved 80 credits at the NCEA Level 3, your entry score will be 160, which meets the requirements for HSFY at Otago. The threshold is a little higher for Biomedicine at the University of Auckland.

This is why if your dream is to study medicine in New Zealand, we recommend you start taking private tutoring with a teacher who can help you develop and explore your full potential. This will increase the average of your grades, your preparation for the many tests to face and your first year of medicine if selected.

Visit Superprof and find the best academic tutor for you.

First-Year Medicine and What to Expect

Your first year of medicine can be quite challenging. The amount of information you need to learn, assimilate and then use is quite overwhelming.

Let's mention a few classes:

  • General Chemistry
  • Molecular biology
  • Human physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathology
  • Neurology

If your first year of med school is too much and you are struggling, then let us suggestĀ Superprof, which is the platform that allows students to contact as many teachers as they would like for reinforcement and guidance.

Teachers usually offer their first lesson for free. That means that the student could have trial lessons with several teachers until he or she finds the one that is a match for their needs, their personality and their challenges.

When it comes to learning well, sometimes everything boils down to the student’s interaction with the teacher.

When learning medicine, a subject that can be quite challenging, students might need to choose the one teacher they think learning might be the easiest. Even if medicine might be hard for them, learning with the teacher of their choice should make the learning experience a more pleasant one.

Superprof is the platform where you can find a long list of medicine tutors who may help you either face the process of selection for first-year medicine or help you succeed in your first year of med school.

Have Fun While Studying Medicine With a TutorĀ

When in school, everything is very much programmed class by class; subjects such as biology or chemistry have to be taught in a more consolidated way.

Because classrooms are packed with students, the information needs to be already determined and uniformly provided to the students. Needless to say, there is little chance for spontaneity and having fun.

That is why learning with a private medicine tutor could be so much fun. The student actually develops a rapport with their teacher. This rapport is fundamental to feeling good about learning and knowing that one can make mistakes. In that environment, the medicine teacher could go beyond what is needed and try different approaches to teach the student in a way that makes sense to him or her.

The medicine tutor could develop games, quizzes, little assignments or just tell the students tidbits about the fascinating world of medicine. The tutor could bring medicine closer to the student by making it more fun, more interesting and more relatable, all of these because of the fact that the teacher and the student have a less formal, structured relationship.
