About Antoine
I am an Earth Sciences graduate from Laval University in Quebec City who's always been passionate by teaching ! I have been working as a substitute teacher in British-Columbia for the past 2 years before relocating to Nova Scotia to complete a Bachelor in Education. I have also worked as a surf instructor for 6 years and worked as an interpreter/Aquarist at a local eco-friendly Aquarium in Ucluelet, BC. As a sports enthusiast, I've also coached primary school basketball teams for 2 years.

My teaching methods vary depending on the subject I have to teach, the age and the number of people in the group. As a one on one tutor, I find it extremely important to establish a good interpersonal relationship with the student before anything else, as to really apply the teaching methods best suited for her/his/their personality. I think being patient and being a good listener are key elements to be effective as a tutor. I also focus on building the student's self-confidence and encourage them to persevere through adversity. Making mistakes is totally normal and I don't want my students to be scared to try. It is important to evaluate the student's learning weakness and to improve those areas while also focusing on their strengths.
The same mentality applies for a bigger group but one of my main focus is to ensure the classroom's healthy atmosphere. Inclusion is key and I want my students to be comfortable with one another and with their teacher. While teaching a bigger group I want to make sure no one is left behind, so I think it is important to vary between masterful teaching, small group projects and individual work to validate each student's progression.
