About Ghislaine

This summer's results are out:

The results for this year GCSE are out (2025): a home-school student I taught who had additional needs, achieved a grade 5; his highest grade. Twin boys for whom I was the only teacher in year 10 and 11, also reached a grade 5. It was again their highest grade! They also had some mild additional needs.
Another boy I tutored from February obtained a grade 5.
I am so proud of them all!

A year 11 boy I tutored from October reached a grade 8 and a girl I started teaching for half an hour to help her with her speaking reached a grade 8 too!

Last summer results have been amazing! My students performed really well in their exams with the two year 11 taking higher achieving grades 9s, and my three foundation ones getting grades 5. The year before, out of the three students I taught from year 9, two of them received a grade 9 and the other one received a grade 8. Another student received grade 7.

From September, think only have space for one home tutored student. I can cover the GCSE syllabus with two or three lessons a week in year 10 and 11.

I taught at secondary level for 23 years in mainstream schools and was Head of Languages for 7 years. This enabled me to learn how to adapt to students and also be aware of what students need to be successful at GCSE. For the last two years, I have taught more than 2,000 lessons online.

I prepare students for GCSE but I also teach adults who need to improve their fluency and accuracy for work or pleasure. Teaching grammar is my strong point as I believe that it is not possible to become truly fluent in a language if you do not know how to form sentences. I make this both accessible and enjoyable. The fact that I have been teaching a lot of my students for the last two years or more speaks of the fact that both parents and adults are happy with the progress that they are making. My timetable is full apart from Wednesday 5pm and Friday 4pm. I may also have availability during the day.

About the lesson

I make sure I motivate students, so that they believe that they can achieve and use a variety of strategies to engage them. I use encouragement and monitor progress from session to session. At GCSE level, I use my wide experience of exam teaching to develop all students' exam skills. With adult learners, I use articles, songs as well as solid grammar teaching, so that they can become confident speakers. My lessons are taught using my own teaching platform which is really efficient and enables me to use different types of documents and media.
