About Charl

My name is Charl. I’m from Cape Town, South Africa. I started Flimm Flammm Private Tutoring, because I'm passionate about people and genuinely interested in helping students.

I believe teaching isn’t just about ingraining information into students’ minds to memorise. I think teaching is also about providing them with the tools they need in order to think critically and succeed.

Experience:
Over 10 years of teaching experience. Currently an online private tutor based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Worked in China and Taiwan as a Tutor, Teacher Trainer and Director of Special Projects.
Fluent in English, secured a Band 9 in IELTS Speaking.
I have extensive experience in developing course books and teaching materials.

Certifications:
TEFL certified.
Advanced AEAS course.
Advanced TOEFL course.
Received multiple teacher of the year awards while working in China.

My name is Charl, and I'm an online English tutor based in Cape Town, South Africa.

I pride myself in helping my students achieve their goals, and in creating a positive learning environment.

Lesson and Course Information

Needs Assessment:
I usually do a basic needs assessment first before determining what’s best for students. A needs assessment helps with determining needs, goals and English level.

Teaching Plans:
Set courses usually consist of 10 lessons, but plans may change after doing a needs assessment.

Online Platform:
Online lessons are conducted through Zoom, Google Meets, Skype or any other suitable platform.
During these online lessons, I share my screen and course materials (ppt, worksheet) with my students.

Trial Class:
It is possible to have a 20 minute free trial lesson first just to see if we're a good match.

Lessons:
Lessons are 50 minutes to an hour.
Homework will be assigned to students.
Receive progress reports after each class.

Prices:
It ranges from R250 to R500 per lesson.
Academic courses are the expensive ones, the rest are more affordable.

Free Classes:
I offer free group classes with other students. I teach one or two free classes a month, and my students are encouraged to sign up. It's a great opportunity to practice speaking and listening in an informal context.
