About Chelsea
I'm a former Philosophy TA and grad from UCLA. After finishing my degree I continue to read Philosophy and literature extensively as well as write. I love working with students, and along with learning, I'm incredibly fulfilled by teaching.
As a TA I've received amazing reviews from my former students (many of which have literally written that I was "their best TA at UCLA") and I've seen dozens upon dozens of students grow over the course of my classes. Beyond this, I've had years of experience as an engaging tutor for high school and college-level students.
I've worked with all kinds of students (of different levels and backgrounds) and I approach every individual uniquely and with an open mind. I've always tried my best to create a welcoming environment for learning and I know from my interactions and reviews that my students have always appreciated this about me as well.
I have experience teaching/tutoring during the pandemic and am comfortable working online or in-person depending on student preferences.

First and foremost I want to teach students skills. Over time as I work with students, I don't just see them do better in a single assignment, I see them think more critically and carry over important skills to all their other work. My lessons are engaging and active, I encourage my students to grow as scholars in a genuine way.
By working together I help students grow as readers, writers, and overall thinkers. A lesson often looks like me asking a student questions about their current understanding of texts or assignments. Then I teach students to think of new ways of understanding a text, maybe by getting the ball rolling with critical questions about the work at hand (and showing students how to start doing this themselves as we go along). I get my students to think carefully about texts and their own writing by breaking down sentence structure and writing organization. Often I've also prepared short 5-10 min for sessions to practice or teach reading and writing skills.
I feel confident tutoring/editing:
Introductory college Philosophy classes
High school English classes (of all varieties)
SAT Reading/Writing/Math
College essay writing
