About Tom
My career as a journalist has equipped me with a broad skill set of communication abilities, in both a verbal and written sense.
I've worked for newspapers, major TV stations and large online platforms and gained a wealth of knowledge from these tough environments.
I have matured in my career but my skills did not come easy, they were hard fought and I spent many years being tutored myself. So I know what works, and what doesn't.
Additionally my background in education, and many years training my juniors in the media, has given me practiced experience teaching others.

I believe in focusing on what is ultimately trying to be achieved when communicating, before honing in on the rules of our language which can prove confusing.
Some of my areas of focus include: basic writing, professional writing, essay writing, public speaking and video presenting.
I am happy to work with material you have on hand or bring my own to suit your experience level.
As long as you have some level of English ability I'm happy to help. As a father of a young daughter myself, I'm happy to work with ages eight and up.
Lessons are usually one hour long but can vary depending on demand.
