About Emlyn

I attend Cardiff University, having completed my Bachelors degree in 2022, I am currently a post - graduate student doing my masters in English literature with the intention of completing an English literature PhD.

I worked in physical labour for a while when I left sixth form, during this time I also completed several work related certificates in various industry skills including my CSCS card for working on building sites, multiple health and safety and first aid qualifications both general and for specialised industries, and a customer service level two. I completed courses in assisting children to learn to read, and identifying dyslexia.
I then found myself working in care at a residential school for autistic children and teenagers, where I completed various QCF qualifications and Social Care Wales certificates around safeguarding and other care specific qualifications.
I applied at 23 years old to study a fast track A Level in English Literature at Cardiff and Vale College, where I achieved an A grade. I then applied to universities across South Wales to study English Literature and received 5 unconditional offers.
I enjoy tutoring one on one with all ages of learners.
I can offer encouragement, compassionate support and motivation to learn.

About the lesson

I am a laid back person, we go at the pace of the student. I am flexible and can either create lesson plans or focus on a subject of the students choosing. I enjoy the subject and wish to provide exciting lessons that inspire a love for reading and literature. The first lesson will be to address educational goals, discuss a lesson plan, and create a schedule. If a syllabus is necessary, we will discuss that in the first session.
I am autistic and I have experience working in a school environment with autistic children and teens. I'm passionate about making learning accessible, and I am flexible to work around the needs of the individual. I endorse anybody accessing education as a human right, and I would love to help adults who may be considering education but lack the confidence to take the first step.
If the student prefers face to face support, I can offer to meet at the library in Barry or within the CF63 area, or any central libraries that I can access by bus or train within 30 minutes of the CF63 postcode.
