About Matthew
I have been an English teacher for almost 30 years and have taught from 6th grade to college level classes such as English 101 and 102. I have worked with students from many different types of backgrounds; I have taught in inner city schools, on a reservation school, and with a refugee population. Having worked with many different types of students has taught me so many different approaches to how to teach students. I have also been a 504 Coordinator for seven years so this helps me to accommodate lessons for students. I have also taught test-taking strategies as well as vocabulary strategies to students.

I use a variety of methods for teaching as it depends on whether I work with a single student, small group, or a classroom. I believe in building relationships with a student so that lessons can be more customized. A typical lesson plan consists of: "bell ringer" or intro mini lesson. Then a transition to the main topic of the lesson. Again, depending on what type of students are before me, we work through the lesson, skill, or piece of knowledge that needs to be accomplished. Then there will be a time for the student to demonstrate they have an understanding of the lesson. Then there is a time for fun and application. What sets me apart as a tutor is my background and experience; with almost 30 years of teaching English at many different levels, having been a 504 Coordinator for seven years, an administrator for eight years, and an adjunct college professor for five years. My lessons are based on the students I am serving.
