About Caroline

Hello! My name is Caroline Sibongile Anthony, and I am delighted to be a part of this tutoring service. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology of Law from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, and I bring a unique perspective to the world of education.

With three years of tutoring experience, I specialize in guiding students through ESL (English as a Second Language) and English courses. My passion lies in literature, and I find immense joy in helping individuals expand their knowledge and proficiency in the English language.

Born and raised in South Africa, my worldview perspective adds a rich cultural dimension to my teaching approach. I believe in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can thrive and embrace the beauty of language.

Whether you're a newcomer to the English language or seeking to enhance your skills, I am here to assist you on your educational journey. Let's work together to achieve your language goals and unlock new opportunities. I look forward to connecting with you.

2. Use basic English greetings and responses.
3. Understand and use common classroom phrases.
4. Identify and pronounce common English sounds and words.

4. Worksheets for practice exercises.
5. Visual aids (pictures, diagrams, etc.).

Introduction (10 minutes):
1. Greeting (2 minutes): Begin the lesson by greeting the student warmly in both English and native language. This helps create a comfortable environment and bridges the connection between their native language and English.

2. Icebreaker (8 minutes): Engage the student in a brief conversation about their interests, hobbies, and background. Use simple English and encourage the student to respond in English. This helps build rapport and assess the student's current language proficiency.

Vocabulary and Phrases (20 minutes):
1.Greetings and Introductions (8 minutes): Use flashcards to introduce and practice common greetings like "Hello," "Hi," "How are you?" Demonstrate appropriate responses and encourage the student to repeat.

Pronunciation Practice (15 minutes):
1. Phonetic Sounds (8 minutes): Focus on common English sounds that may be challenging for Somali speakers. Practice with simple words containing those sounds.

Practice Activities (10 minutes):
1. Role-Playing (5 minutes): Engage in role-playing scenarios where the student can use the greetings and phrases learned. This helps in practical application and builds confidence.
