About Shelby
Here’s a little bit about me for everyone! I am 19 years old and going into my second year of college where I am studying psychology and child/adolescent development! I have babysat, mentored, and tutored for many years! My senior year, I took an elective where I got to spend a few hours a week working with the kindergarteners at the elementary school. I also mentored in the special education classroom throughout my senior year! I have a passion for helping make a difference in kids life. So, until I get my bachelors and go to grad school, I want to do that in all the small ways I can!

When taking a lesson with me, you will always be praised and never “criticized”. We all make mistakes, especially when learning things. When teaching how to read and write, I use a lot of positivity, even with mistakes and gently redirect to the correct way, or have them try again! When proofreading essays and teaching how to write longer pieces of work, I use the two compliments, one criticism process. For every note I make on what should be improved, I make two notes on what they’re doing well. My goal is to not only improve my students skills and ability in English class, but to also make them feel more confident and passionate about it!
