About Erik
I’m a dedicated educator with over six years of classroom experience and more than twenty years of writing and research expertise. I hold a Bachelor’s in Philosophy and a Master’s in Theological Studies, both rooted in the classical liberal arts tradition. I’ve taught writing, literature, history, and philosophy at various levels, and I love helping students grow in clarity, confidence, and critical thinking. Whether you're looking to sharpen your essays, deepen your understanding of the humanities, or prepare for college-level work, I'm here to guide you with patience, insight, and proven strategies. Professionalism and encouragement go hand in hand in my teaching style—I take your goals seriously and tailor each session to meet your unique needs.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
My approach is rooted in classical methods: I prioritize clarity, structure, and thoughtful engagement with ideas. Whether we’re refining an essay or exploring historical themes, I guide students to think critically, organize their thoughts logically, and express themselves with confidence. I use Socratic questioning, modeling, and targeted feedback to help students internalize good writing habits and deeper understanding.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each session is tailored to the student’s needs but typically includes a quick check-in, a focused lesson on a specific skill or concept (e.g., thesis structure, literary analysis, source evaluation), guided practice or discussion, and personalized feedback. I also assign optional follow-up exercises to reinforce what we've covered.
What Sets Me Apart
I bring over 20 years of writing experience and a decade of classical education training, along with a B.A. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Theological Studies. I don’t just edit or correct—I mentor. My goal is to help students become self-aware, independent thinkers who can write and reason with clarity, purpose, and grace.
Who the Lessons Are For
I work with middle school, high school, and college students—particularly those looking to improve in writing, history, literature, government, and philosophy. Whether you're writing your first essay, preparing for college-level research, or needing help with AP-style courses or classical education programs, I’m here to help.
