About Matt
As Theodore Roosevelt once said, "nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care", and I firmly believe in this teaching philosophy where I want to invest my time and efforts ensuring the students see how much I care as an educator to best help them succeed John Adams once said, "there are two types of education, one should teach us how to living, and the other how to live." Without these beliefs in education, we are simply providing information and expecting results. We, as educators, should be teaching how the content is relative to how we live and impact the world around us.

My lessons have included hands-on engagement activities such as student re-enactments where the kids assume the roles of important figures in history. I've taught lessons that tie globalization to the lives of our students & how the world is a 21st-century global economy. I've taught a unit on the Constitution using "constitutional scenarios" to determine if the acts are constitutional. I've taught a Middle Ages assignment where the students create their own Coat of Arms to show their family history. We've written essays on the importance of the School of Athens, George Washington's presidency, Andrew Jackson's presidency, the Road to Civil War, how Reconstruction was both a success and failure, How America lived and still lives in a Progressive era, the differences between nationalism and patriotism, how the World Wars changed the future of war forever. We've used the National Parks Service to create a National Parks project making a flyer to convince people to visit the national parks. We've examined modern China and the European Union's relationship with the United States. We've studied the economic, social and environmental impact Mount Everest has on the Nepalese economy. We compared and contrasted the COVID-19 pandemic to the Bubonic Plague. We re-enacted the Second Continental Congress where students assumed the roles of the 56 delegates from the 13 colonies and discussed whether the colonies should unite to declare independence from Great Britain. We looked at the Cold War and compared the events in that era and discussed, "are we currently in a Cold War with anyone?" The history of Afghanistan and the United States' involvement with the nation and the region over the War on Terror A history of Russia & Ukraine studying how and why the war broke out and currently affecting the world. The rise and fall of the Roman Empire to determine the three most important things that united the empire & divided the empire.
