About Freya
With a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and over 7 years of teaching experience, I specialise in working with adult beginners and returning violinists. My approach focuses on making music enjoyable, accessible, and creative. I highlight non-classical genres such as folk, blues, worship, and jazz. Improvisation is taught gradually, helping students gain freedom and confidence. I use simple, practical exercises that make technical growth stress-free. Ergonomic posture is emphasised so students play comfortably and without strain. Mindfulness is woven into each lesson to create a relaxed atmosphere. I believe that sight-reading is the foundation for musical independence on the violin. My approach is structured and systematic, giving students the tools to read fluently. Lessons begin with simple rhythm and pitch recognition, then progress into ledger lines and accidentals. Exercises train quick eye-to-finger response for smooth transitions. This habit makes new music easier to learn and perform instantly. Multi-part scores are also taught, building skills for ensemble and worship settings. Rhythm fluency is a consistent focus, especially in complex passages. For Musical Theatre Enthusiasts, this creates confidence in fast-paced rehearsals.
