About Elen

Teaching piano for 8 years and instructing over 150 students has been an incredible journey filled with diverse stories and achievements. My students range from beginners who are just discovering their love for the piano to advanced college musicians preparing for performances and competitions. I focus on providing clear and supportive instruction, emphasizing technique, sight-reading, and expressive playing. I believe that connecting music to a student’s personal interests and experiences is key to maintaining motivation and fostering artistic growth. One particularly memorable experience was helping a college student overcome stage fright before their first solo recital. We worked on mental preparation, performance skills, and building confidence step by step. Their successful performance and the enthusiastic response from the audience were unforgettable, reinforcing why I am passionate about teaching. Music is not just about playing notes — it’s about storytelling, emotion, and personal expression. I strive to empower every student to find their voice and share it confidently through the piano.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that piano lessons should inspire both skill and imagination. Every student comes with their own blend of interests, abilities, and life experiences, and I take time to understand these elements so I can make lessons meaningful and engaging.

While technique and consistency are cornerstones of piano learning, I don’t let the technical side overshadow the creative. I help students build strong foundations in finger coordination, rhythm, music reading, and theory, but I also regularly introduce improvisation games, songwriting prompts, and ear training activities. These creative practices encourage flexibility and musical intuition, and they often uncover talents students didn’t know they had. I aim to foster musical literacy in a well-rounded way—students learn to read scores, understand harmony, recognize patterns by ear, and interpret music thoughtfully.

I also believe that learning should feel achievable. I break down complex pieces and concepts into manageable steps, and I make sure each lesson leaves students with a clear idea of what they’re working toward. Encouragement and positive reinforcement are part of every lesson, and I always celebrate progress, no matter how small. I’m also deeply invested in the emotional growth of my students. I teach them that setbacks are part of the journey and that perseverance leads to discovery. I tailor feedback to be honest but kind, helping students learn how to self-correct and trust their musical instincts. For students who are more advanced or performance-oriented, I help refine their expressive skills, stage presence, and interpretation of complex repertoire.

For beginners, I focus on building curiosity and enjoyment, because those are the emotions that carry them through the more difficult stages of learning. Whether a student is pursuing formal exams, creating their own songs, or just playing for personal peace, I meet them where they are and guide them forward with clarity and care. The piano, to me, is a lifelong companion—and I strive to help every student build that lasting relationship.
