About John
I have completed three-years of a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and am pursuing an honors degree. Throughout my degree I have tutored in a range of subjects from elementary math to second year organic chemistry. Neuroscience also happens to be a great precursor to tutoring.
I do have information below on why that is the case, but for those who are interested in knowing more about me, I am involved with a lot of things. I have been playing chess for about 8 years now, and doing jiu jitsu for about 3 years. I was heavily involved with launching the project Geo, a keyboard component that was recently launched on kickstarter, and am working with another person on a project that aims to offer therapeutic interventions for seniors.
Why is neuroscience good for tutoring?
Neuroscience tests many components of the hard sciences (physics, chemistry, and biology), providing an apt basis for the technical components of tutoring. Neuroscience also includes a behavioural component that applies very nicely to academic coaching with lessons on learning and memory, and sleep, for example. Combined with my own experience applying this information, this will move you towards achieving your academic potential.

I have placed some information below to help understand what the lessons might be like and who they might be useful for. I also placed a video demo in my bio and I recently made some other demo videos I've recorded public on my YouTube channel for your viewing. Rest assured, I have upgraded my tech. Feel free to message me with any questions :)
Services
- Tutoring (technical aspects of academia: math and science). Addresses questions of ‘what does this mean?’, ‘can you explain this better?’, or ‘how might this information be useful?’
- Academic Coaching (non-technical aspects: wide ranging). Addresses questions of ‘how can I best prepare for a test?’, ‘how can I adjust my lifestyle to boost my academic success?’, ‘how can I improve my science writing?’, or ‘how can I do better research?’
Depending on your needs, lessons may vary dramatically from the time involvement to the fundamental structure of the lessons. A basic lesson plan might look like an explanation of a concept followed by questions to reinforce that concept. You can also expect a lot of talk from me about fundamental knowledge. It is not often that people have problems acquiring knowledge, they typically have gaps in previous knowledge that make it difficult to understand new knowledge.
I am offering all elementary and high school core sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) and maths. I do offer tutoring for university courses in the sciences, of which you may inquire.
Traditionally I have offered tutoring in person but find online more convenient, accessible, and affordable, so I am moving my services online.
I am not the most expensive tutor you will find, but I am also not the cheapest- my price reflects the service that I offer. With that said, differences in price are not typically significant for clients and it is almost always better to hire someone who knows what they are doing and who will show up. Typically clients take on 1 or 2 sessions a week, which usually means large differences in hourly rates don't translate to large differences in pay on a per client basis. In other words, even if you don't hire me, you probably shouldn't hire a cheap tutor either.

I’ve been struggling with math but I have a lot more confidence now since working with John
John tutored my son a variety of subjects. He was patient and explained everything very throughly.
Great teacher, knows his stuff, works around your availability very well.
He takes his time to explain things and he’s really patient. He is extremely knowledgeable! He was my tutor and I’d definitely recommend him to other students.
