I have long been inspired by the Montessori approach to knowledge acquisition and aim to incorporate many of the fundamental characteristics of this pedagogy into my sessions.

I have utilised tutoring services for my son who flourished with the additional care and consideration placed onto education and specific subjects.

Tutoring was not intended as a long-term solution but much rather assistance for further understanding and comprehension. Large class sizes and technological advances have resulted in school education facing challenges like never before and I experienced first hand the difficulties in supporting young students through education.

I was quickly able to find a tutor for any key subject area for my son and they were fantastic.

My tutoring sessions were however borne from my understanding of the educational landscape and how more can be done to assist in a students development. The tutor sessions I provide are not ‘conventional’ in many respects. My role is to challenge my student to think critically and outside of the box. I enable students to consider their position in the wider world, politics, philosophy and the like. I assist students to learn HOW to learn, so any subject area becomes accessible.

Attaining high grades is an essential component of access onto many reputable courses for students.

However how does a student stand out?
How does a student find the confidence to ask questions they need assistance with?
How can a student develop in such a way education is enjoyable and fulfilling?

My sessions offer one-on-one tutoring. I work with my students to broaden theIr horizon, safely consider the world as they never have before, consider the value of their place in society and contribution and also support their well-being through these discussions.

It is important that my students feel they direct the areas of tutoring I provide; the structure and provision of that which follows is however my responsibility.

I appreciate for parents aiming to find quality time to discuss the world with their children can seem impossible. My structured sessions enable parents and care-givers to follow the student’s progression as it occurs and become part of the journey as opposed to an observer.

The aim of my tutoring is to provide students with a platform to open their minds and critically consider the world around them. Highly intelligent children are often under-stimulated in educational settings and my sessions provide an opportunity for this intelligence to be explored. Likewise I enjoy working with students who may be suffering with low confidence and subsequently benefit from one-on-one discussions and debates in a space that is safe and respectful.

Previously students have chosen a topic (for example Astrology) and preparation for the session incorporates key reading and research. In this way the influence of tutoring becomes more than merely a one hour a week fix but instead weaves through the entirety of the students education.
