My teaching style is practical and is highly based on the student that I am dealing with. For young producers I always keep it very simple for them give them easy assignments to get them comfortable with the music production process whereas if I am dealing with students who have some prior knowledge then in that case we dive more deeply in all the concepts of sound along with intermediate/advanced level assignments.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Getting into music is just like a deep dive in an ocean and this is what exactly happened with me. While I was growing up I was highly influenced by electronic music no matter what genre it was. I was listening to nu-disco, techno, house, east coast, west coast everything that I could find in tapes or CDs. All this made me google things and I came across my first D.A.W (Digital Audio Workstation) Fl Studio, started out by myself figuring out how the software works was a pain but I continued since I was enjoying it, alongside I was getting into DJing using softwares because I felt like to keep the music production scene going or support it I had to perform live which I did for a couple of years.
From that point till now there has been nothing that pulled me back and I just expanded myself as an artist, producer, DJ and an educator.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

While I was teaching myself music production using some online sources which is like a go to for everyone who starts out all by themselves I realised that there was no good or decent school for music production in Delhi and I couldn't find someone who could teach me music production on Ableton Live. I felt like no one was able to give the right information about where to start from and questions like if learning an instrument would be helpful or music theory could give it a push and how to make money after producing, such questions were either ignored or unanswered which motivated me to do better if it ever comes to teaching.
Now whenever I get an inquiry for any music related course I try to answer all the questions that a student has, try to understand their needs and expectations and provide clarity, provide the counselling that I could never get from anyone when I started out.
  • How does your work help society?

Music is a creative field which means that it is super stressful. Some students end up in a creative block and unable to write music which makes them demotivated or either feel like a failure. My job in this situation becomes very crucial since I have to either pull them out of that rabbit hole or never let them get into one. Seeing young producers chasing their dreams, pushing themselves and supporting them every day as a friend, mentor and teacher is what makes me feel like I have an important job in this society in which I should never fail.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I was in a stage where I was about to give up because my music was sounding either monotonous, lifeless or similar to everyone else and I was facing difficulties in finding my own persona as an artist, this is where my music theory teacher came into the picture. He was the one who showed me a new world of music. I was getting western classical music knowledge as well as the history of music which helped me in pushing my limits and I could get some fresh ideas going in my head. He would help me in playing piano which later turned out to be really helpful for recording my own chord progressions and get that human touch in my music. My music composition skills improved drastically and with his guidance I was able to turn my 2 bar melodies into 8 and 16 bars beautiful pieces.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I have always been fond of travelling to peaceful locations which made me develop immense love for the mountains, every year I try to visit some offbeat location in the mountains with my Ukulele.
Musical instruments really inspire and attract me so I love playing piano, guitar and uke which pushes me to try learning new instruments. Apart from all of this I love to design content for an Instagram page by the name @musicproducersarena which is for all upcoming producers where I keep posting informative posts that help and inspire fellow producers.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

The anecdote that I can think of is from my college days and as I recall it I remember my professors getting irritated with me because I would skip their lectures for my electronic band in college where my job was to provide backing tracks/accompaniment to my other band members. I feel all my life I have given more importance to music than anything else which was clearly visible due to the difference between my college grades and my music grades, I was getting distinction in my western classical music examinations and would just manage to pass my Economics hons. semester examinations.
