About Benedict
I specialise in helping adult learners and returning musicians turn theory from a headache into a helpful map. My approach is calm, practical, and results-focused: you’ll understand what matters, why it matters, and how to use it at the keyboard.
Students have passed ABRSM Grade 5 Theory (and beyond) and often report clearer reading and faster learning within a few weeks. I keep intake limited so each student gets attentive guidance and a simple weekly plan.

English
We strip away jargon and build usable theory step by step:
- Rhythm, intervals, keys, harmony, cadences, form
- How to analyse pieces you love (so memory & interpretation improve)
- Exam prep (if desired), with targeted drills and past-paper strategy
Every session ends with one focused takeaway and a short practice plan, so you never wonder what to do next. Studio mic + overhead keyboard camera make demos clear and easy to follow.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Benedict is a wonderful tutor, who is extremely patient and friendly, and takes his time to teach at a comfortable pace. His teaching fosters individuality in every student. Would definitely recommend!
Benedict is a superb teacher and has really helped me advance in all aspects of my playing. He is also so well organised - an introductory pack with information and links to helpful sites really make me feel prepared for his lessons.
Benedict is an enthusiastic and extremely talented piano teacher. He has been teaching my 13-year-old son and me, both of us relative beginners, for several months, and we have both made fantastic progress in a short space of time.
Our lessons cover a perfect mix of theory, sight reading, techniques, classical and jazz pieces, and (the best part) improvisation. Benedict already has both of us improvising the style of Debussy, amongst many other styles.
I could not recommend Benedict more highly.
I've been learning music theory with Benedict for the past year. He gives engaging lessons and is a reliable and patient tutor. Would recommend!
Benedict is an incredibly professional and personable teacher. He has worked and taught at some top institutions including: St Paul’s Cathedral, Portsmouth Cathedral and Worcester College in Oxford University. Not only is he a fantastic piano and organ player, he also has a clear, well-paced and understandable teaching style. He has worked with students of all ages from primary to secondary and beyond. Benedict goes above and beyond to adjust his teaching to a range of different abilities and learning styles. He has a strict “no student is a lost cause” policy. I believe that anybody lucky enough to be tutored by Benedict will be successful, both instrumentally and musically. In addition, Benedict actively strives to promote his other interests which include: composition, conducting, music production and music technology. Finally, Benedict is heavily invested in safeguarding. He believes that both children and adults should be able to learn in a safe, dignified and respectful environment and he actively fosters this wherever he is teaching. As a friend and student of Benedict, I cannot recommend him highly enough.
We used Benedict on a project to create the music for a corporate video. His work was fantastic quality amd delivered quickly. I then asked him to assist my daughter in a music composition for her school project, which was very successful. He is a thorough and reliable teacher.
