About Anna

I am a professional academic tutor with over seven years of tutoring experience.

I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Glasgow and have several years of professional experience working in academic research roles. My areas of expertise include feminist theory, gender studies, post-Fordism, neoliberal state politics, platform economies, digital labour, organisational studies, and qualitative and participatory research methodologies.

In addition to my PhD, I hold a first-class BA in Sociology and Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London and a distinction-level MA in Sociology from the University of Essex. I was awarded the University of Essex’s 2016 David Lockwood Prize for the best Sociology dissertation across my graduating cohort.

I also hold an A-grade postgraduate teaching qualification certified by the University of Cambridge.

During my four-year PhD, I undertook professional training in academic tutoring and taught undergraduate sociology students through seminars and lectures. I graded essays and dissertations, giving me detailed knowledge of academic assessment standards and the undergraduate sociology curriculum.

I have experience supporting both undergraduate Sociology students and A Level Sociology students through the AQA curriculum, including lesson delivery, assessment feedback, dissertation support, and exam preparation. I have received consistently positive feedback from my students, whom I have supported towards achieving excellent dissertation, essay and exam grades.

Alongside my teaching and academic work, I have also worked for several years as a freelance proofreader, copy editor, and content writer, developing advanced expertise in academic writing, English grammar, and written communication.

All of my tutoring sessions are led and shaped by the needs of my individual students. Due to my extensive academic experience, I am able to assist in a variety of areas.

I offer sessions dedicated to academic skills, with a focus on improving your essay writing skills, research skills, critical reading skills, and presentation skills.

I can also provide sessions that focus on your acquisition and retention of knowledge in specific areas of your academic curriculum. My sessions are entirely determined by your specific needs.

I know that achieving academic excellence requires confidence and self-belief, which is why my methodological approach is centred on setting achievable goals and providing consistent encouragement and support, both inside and outside lesson time.

I don't use jargon, and I aim to make my lessons as straightforward and understandable as possible. I believe strongly in making sociology relatable and approachable, and I achieve this through the use of up-to-date and contemporary examples as well as a variety of teaching materials and activities.

In my classes, I will help you develop the academic skills necessary to achieve an excellent grade in sociology by guiding the development of your sociological imagination. This will provide you with the skills necessary to tackle a variety of academic challenges throughout your university career and will ultimately develop your capacity to view and understand the world sociologically.
