About Sarah

Born in Paris in 1989, Sarah Carso began her musical education at the age of 6, in the Conservatory of Music of her neighborhood in Paris, where she and four generations of her family grew up in.
Following the steps and encouragements of her father and grand father, both professional multi-instrumentalists, she completed a comprehensive Classical music program, with the double bass as her
first instrument, the trumpet as her second, and a wide range of lessons in opera singing, piano playing, orchestra and chamber music practices as well as classical and modern
jazz dancing classes to enrich her skills.
At the age of 12, Sarah got admitted into the french arts schooling program for advanced students, allowing them an adapted schedule to comply with both expectations, being enrolled in
high levels at nationally recognized institutions in their fields, while still remaining a junior and high school graduating student.
At 14 years old, she got accepted into the Paris National Conservatory as a classical double bass player. In 2009, she obtained her Diploma of Musical Studies in Classical Double bass, and then
started playing professionally with French orchestras and chamber music bands for the next few years in France and Europe.
She was part of the Orchestre Français des jeunes, the French national youth orchestra, and the JONDE, Spanish national youth orchestra, with which she toured in France, Germany and Spain
and did multiple concerts in venues such as la Salle Pleyel & Radio France, also performing with, among others, the APHP orchestra, the Prométhée Orchestra, as well as with her own chamber
music duo, with Anne Claire Gorenstein on violin, called Dû aux Dames.
During that prolific start in her classical music career, Sarah Carso felt the need to expand and diversify her genres of expertise and started studying Jazz, using her voice as her instrument of
predilection for a change !
Having worked with Claudia Solal and Sara Lazarus in master classes and private lessons, she got accepted for the second time into the Paris National Conservatory, but now as a jazz singer,
where she graduated with a Diploma in Jazz studies in 2014.

With this program, she had the opportunity to work with artists of international recognition such as David Berger, Chuck Israel, Judy Niemack, and Michelle Hendrix to name a few. The Big Band
of the National Conservatory of Paris, directed by Pierre Bertrand, also invited her to be a special guest and a featured vocalist in a series of concerts based on the works of Ella Fitzgerald and
Duke Ellington, the Latin American Song Book and the Count Basie Orchestra repertoire.
Having moved to New York City in 2014 to pursue a Master in Jazz Performance and Education at Queens College, City University of New York, Sarah had the chance to improve her skills further
more with teachers such as the great jazz musicians Michael Mossman, Allison Wedding, Antonio Hart, JD Walter, Charenee Wade and Dennis Mackrel.
After graduating from her Masters, Sarah got hired as the main music teacher at MusiBambino studio, in Upper West side Manhattan, an institution of over 25 years, dedicated in multi
instrumental educative program for the very young. She will teach up to 17 collective music classes a week for students from 4 months to 6 year olds, as well as private instrumental lessons
for all ages and levels.
Sarah also recorded her own album, for which she wrote parts of the music and lyrics in French and English, as a contemporary jazz vocalist with her Parisian quintet in 2013 and promoted it
through various concerts and festivals in France, the US and Mexico where she toured. The album is called “Patchwork” and got streamed on Radio France, on national radios in Mexico and is
available on Apple Music, Spotify and all music platforms.
The official music video “I remember Clifford” was made in Brooklyn, NYC where she lived with Altrac Production and is available on youtube on Sarah Carso’s channel.
As a music teacher, Sarah has been giving private and collective music and instrumental lessons, for all ages and levels, and in a very wide range of instruments and genres given her original
journey, for over a decade now.
In 2017, she founded her own business and created a bilingual multi-instrumental music program, in French and English, dedicated to the artistic collective education and the individual
development of the early childhood as well as the primary school students.
Her Music in French workshops have been adopted by many schools in New York, Paris and Melbourne, where she relocated in 2018.
Sarah Carso is currently living, teaching and performing in Melbourne, Australia, while remaining
present for tours and master classes in the United States and her home country of France.

For Private lessons, a wide range of instruments is available from the Strings to the Brass - having been trained as a multi-instrumentalist - for all ages and levels and in Classical, Jazz or Contemporary genres.
The class can last from 30min to 1h and be shared with one or several siblings/friends if wanted in the same or different instruments.
Classes are taught in English or in French and are structured around music reading and writing, music theory, repertoire practice and artistic creativity development and can be adapted to each and everyone's goal.

Collective music workshops for the youngest or for a group are following the three stages below :

1) Percussions :

Hands on collective learning and practice time with the percussions family, accompanied with songs in French and/or English that children know and can sing along with, while playing an instrument and learning a repertoire. First introduction to Musical elements and notions such as tempo / dynamics / rhythm values / notes...etc

2) Activity :

Time for move songs, dances, introduction of new material like parachute or bean bags..etc, all with a strong educational purpose, linked to the previous musical notions we would have talked about in the Percussions time.
The goal is to review in a fun way the new elements learned on an instrument, and to integrate them to a game or a movement making the connection between music and dance, body and expression.

3) Instrument of the day :

The very unique specificity of this workshop and music program that I am offering is that I, myself, am bringing and playing a different instrument at every workshop that I teach for the same group.
Indeed, I have been trained to play a bit of all instruments from the Brass to the Strings, and some woodwinds, in the European classical orchestra as part of my training in New York and Paris previously. So I am able to provide an exhaustive first introduction to a wide range of instruments for my students to enjoy, discover (often for the first time) hear and touch, or even sometimes play the “instrument of the day“ with me or by themselves when possible.

Don't hesitate to message me to discuss it more :)
