About Henning

I have been working in the music industry for over 20 years as a film composer, music producer, and sound designer. In 2004, I founded my own music production company, SugarCandyMountain. During and after my jazz piano studies in Amsterdam, I performed on stage as a pianist with well-known jazz and pop musicians throughout Europe. I have composed and produced music for films (cinema, TV, and feature), games, and worldwide advertising campaigns of various genres such as contemporary, EDM, techno, jazz, Baroque, singer/songwriter, pop, Bollywood, and anime. Additionally, I have created sound experiences in Amsterdam (Amsterdam Light Festival) and London (Victoria & Albert Museum, Fortnum & Mason). As an artist, I have collaborated and released music with LAN and under the name Grambow with artists such as Till von Sein, &ME, Tigerskin, Thalstroem, among others.

About the lesson

What am I offering?

In addition to my work as a composer and producer of music for films, games, and artists of various genres, I offer mixing workshops in our live recording studio in Berlin-Mitte (sugarcandymountain dot com /projects/studio). If you want to learn how to mix your music production, tracks, or recordings in the best possible way so that the music sounds great everywhere, offers an enjoyable listening experience for everyone, and meets industry standards, then this workshop is right for you. The goal is to complete a uniquely sounding mix of your recording or track. The focus is on learning the most important basics of mixing music in general, and specifically training your ears when working with music. We use different speaker pairs (1- to 3-way) to better focus on certain frequency ranges and perform re-amping and re-processing with the studio outboard gear. The workshop has up to 4 participants, so that everyone automatically learns from each other's mixes and is not exclusively focused on their own music.

How much time do we need?

A workshop session lasts 120 minutes. A course consists of 8 sessions.

What do I need and how good should my skills be?

The workshop takes place in our studio. You can play your audio recordings and tracks on our studio computer during the first session, so that we can mix your music together on our setup. You don't need any hardware or equipment for the workshop itself. Of course, it is useful if you can try out what you have learned on your own setup at home (which DAW doesn't matter).
