About Steve
My name is Steve and I use they/them pronouns. I graduated from the University of Ottawa Common Law program Magna Cum Laude in 2022. When I started law school, I felt that the stereotypical approach to studying law didn’t suit my learning needs and I struggled. Reading case law and synthesizing legal rules became incredibly overwhelming and time consuming.
When I finally found a method of studying that worked for me, I helped others do the same through both formal and informal tutoring. My approach to tutoring is to help students find accessible study methods that work for them and ultimately help to reduce the stress of navigating law school. My motto has always been to find ways to “work smarter, not harder”!
I look forward to meeting you!

I am happy to provide a free 30min intro session to meet and get a sense of your needs and how I may help. After our initial session, you can book hour long sessions at my regular rate. If you have specific accessibility needs, I am happy to do my best to schedule sessions that work best for you.
I will primarily offer sessions online, unless accessibility requires otherwise. I am located in the Vancouver area and I am only able to meet in person within the city.
In a typical session, I will draw on my personal approach to law school and prior tutoring experiences to create a learning plan that works best for you. I will always be open to feedback and open communication to ensure we can adapt to your needs as they may change over time.
Some examples of how I can assist you include:
1. Provide methods to reduce stress and study effectively;
2. Review approaches to effectively reading and understanding case law;
2. Assist you in improving your legal writing skills by drawing on the principles of Point First legal writing;
3. Helping to understand content in both introductory and advanced courses in Admin law, Aboriginal/Indigenous Law, Constitutional Law and Written/Oral advocacy.
I am happy to discuss more specific study needs in our intro meeting.

This role required him to assess work fairly and provide constructive feedback, reinforcing my confidence in him and showcasing his strong understanding of the subject matter.
As for being a great teacher, Steve possesses a deep understanding of his subject, which he conveys in an engaging way. He is patient and empathetic, allowing him to connect with students and understand their individual needs. His enthusiasm for learning inspires students to be curious and motivated. Moreover, his ability to provide constructive feedback helps students grow and improve, making him an effective educator. Overall, Steve’s combination of trustworthiness and teaching skills, along with his experience as a peer reviewer, creates a positive and impactful learning environment.I met Steve when we were in law school. He was working as a tutor and in a couple of my classes. I was struggling with concepts in a class and Steve became my tutor; I am so glad he did. He was patient and made it comfortable for me to ask questions and not feel like I was stupid. He also helped me with my writing skills and I still use the tools he taught me. Steve is extremely intelligent and I know that I was successful in more than 1 class because of his tutoring. I know Steve is a great tutor and I feel privileged to have had his help.
