About Chris
In my 6 years of teaching piano, I’ve worked with more than 150 students ranging from beginners to advanced. I believe great piano instruction blends solid technical foundations with creative exploration. I emphasize finger dexterity, rhythmic precision, and sight-reading skills while encouraging expressive playing through dynamics, phrasing, and tone shaping. Theory and improvisation are woven naturally into lessons to deepen understanding and inspire creativity. I personalize each lesson to align with students’ musical tastes—be it classical, jazz, or contemporary styles—so they stay engaged and motivated. A highlight was helping a student overcome performance anxiety to perform confidently at their first recital, a moment that greatly boosted their self-esteem. I encourage structured practice routines and goal-setting to foster steady progress and ownership of learning. My goal is to help every student find joy and confidence in their musical journey.

Teaching piano isn’t just about notes on a page—it’s about helping students build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love of music. I believe the best learning happens when students feel safe, respected, and empowered to be themselves.
My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and highly adaptive. I meet students where they are, whether that’s at the very beginning of their musical journey or in the middle of preparing for a challenging performance. I break down technical concepts like phrasing, articulation, pedaling, and hand coordination into manageable steps and use creative strategies to make them stick. I love integrating students’ personal music tastes into lessons, arranging simplified versions of their favorite songs or helping them write their own.
I also emphasize the importance of musical expression—how dynamics, tempo, and tone can turn simple notes into a story. A recent highlight for me was helping a young student with performance anxiety prepare for a school concert. Through role-playing, breathing techniques, and a step-by-step performance plan, they not only played with confidence but walked off the stage smiling. That kind of transformation is why I teach. Piano is more than just an instrument; it’s a tool for self-discovery.
