About Chris

I am a graduate from University of Prince Edward Island. I have received my bachelor's degree in business administration. I am also a graduate from Holland College and received an associate's degree in accounting. I have experience working in both public and private accounting.

I am currently offering tutoring online or face-to-face in the following accounting courses:

Introduction to Financial Accounting I
Introduction to Financial Accounting II
Managerial Accounting

About the lesson

Over the years, I have found that many student's, including myself, learn by the hands on method. Therefore, my approach to tutoring is to do problems right out of the textbook while I teach the material. I will usually take one question and walk the student through the problem slowly (some students will get it right away, while for others, it may take a bit more time). Once I have completed the question, I will pick another question very similar to the one I just did and get the student to do it on their own. You can sit and watch me solve the problem and think to yourself "I understand what he is doing. I get it." However, It is much different when the time comes to do the test/exam and you have a blank piece of paper sitting in front of you and having to produce the answer.

I am very passionate about the field of accounting. Accounting is the language of business and it is a critical skill to know/learn (especially if you are looking to be an entrepreneur and wanting to start your own business). I highly enjoy tutoring/teaching other students this subject and my goal is not only for students to excel in the course and get a really good grade, but also to have a new appreciation for accounting and to understand how important it truly is in business.

When teaching, I never rush through problems as I want the student to feel comfortable with the material he/she is learning. I am always happy to re-do the problem I just demonstrated or to help the student out with the problem I just assigned them. I am very flexible in my teaching and will work at a pace you are most comfortable with. I will give you as much help and guidance as needed. But, the only way you are truly going to learn is by doing the problem yourself! If you cannot do the questions from the book, you cannot and will not do well on the exam.

Please know that accounting is not a course in which you can procrastinate. You need to do work every single day to help grasp the concepts that you might be struggling with. Unlike some of your other courses, you will not pass accounting by putting off all the work and studying a night or two before. You need to put in the time and effort and stay ahead of the game. I am willing to help you, but I need you to do your part and re-do the problems we work on and ask questions if you are lost. I will not be there to write the exam for you! That responsibility is yours. And whether or not you do well in the course, is ultimately in your hands. Think of me as the training wheels on a bike. I will help you learn how to ride a bike and get a feel of the motion of the bike itself. But eventually, those training wheels have to come off. You can't rely on them forever. Well, you can, but you will never make any progress and will never truly learn how to ride a bike properly.

* Note: I will only provide a full refund if you really tried hard in the course and put the time and effort in. I will not reward students who are lazy nor will I reward students who did not commit properly to the course. As mentioned previously, this is not a course in which you can procrastinate. I will do everything and anything I can to help you. However, I need you to do your part as well (doing the work and asking specific questions!) It's a two-way street. If you feel like you are not able to commit to the course at this particular point in time, drop it and get some form of refund. Do not continue on and give yourself a failing grade that will be reflected on your transcripts/academic record.
