About Ryan
Hi, I am Ryan and I am happy that you found my profile! I am a PPE graduate from Oxford University and am passionate about philosophy. I am experienced at teaching philosophy or theology at A-level and undergraduate level. My students have consistently achieved A or A* grades and significantly improved their understanding.
Being able to share my enthusiasm with students is always exciting and I particularly enjoy making complex philosophical ideas clear and showing how they are relevant to each student. I co-founded the Oxford University Philosophy Society and had extensive experience explaining philosophical ideas to large and varied audiences.
Recently, I have finished a Masters in Law at UCL focusing on jurisprudence and political philosophy. This helped me to further develop my expertise and to explore how philosophy can be directly relevant to major issues facing society today.
I am also a non-praticing barrister. In my legal training, I learnt about the most effective techniques for clear and persuasive communication. I now seek to teach my students to apply these techniques in their essays and presentations.I am also a former competitive debater and offer teaching in debating and public speaking. I apply these skills to preparing students to be confident and persuasive in Oxbridge interviews.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Lessons will be specifically tailored to each student and a plan designed to prepare for university exams, research projects, or to systematically explore a student's area of interest. I also provide detailed feedback on essays, essay plans and dissertation/thesis topics.
I aim to get students to actually begin to do philosophy themselves, and to see how philosophical thinking can address genuinely important issues that we all grapple with in our lives. I particularly enjoy studying and teaching the history of philosophy, looking for the ways in which thinking from the past can be taken seriously and might actually contain real insight from which we can learn today.
Lessons are typically one hour long, but this can be flexible.
Please do let me know if you have any questions! I would be happy to arrange a free first lesson just to get to know each other.
