About ADAM
'Liverpool composer Adam Letman revolutionises traditional Irish sound'- Matt Markey, (concealed information) I am a composer and conductor who has taught music theory and Jazz saxophone since I was 16, after gaining my grade 8 in music theory. I am a recorded composer whose works have been played in Liverpool, Manchester, Belgium and Ireland. I have 3 of my pieces published on Spotify under the name Adam B Letman. My students have gone on to study composition at the Birmingham Conservatoire and musicology at Manchester University. I studied with the acclaimed Liverpool composer Professor Stephen Pratt, as well as Professors Camden Reeves, Stephen Davismoon and Dr Richard Whalley. I am also an active performer in the Liverpool-based Jazz ensemble 'Sweet Beans' who recently played the International Jazz Festival in Liverpool 2020.

My teaching methodology is individual to each student. EVERY lesson is tailored to that particular student's needs. I have taught people aged 6-74, with complex learning difficulties such as autism and dyslexia. I get the best out of every student by being approachable, down to Earth, open-minded and having detailed knowledge in the fields I teach.

Perfect! The trial lesson with the tutor was very good. My child was engaged and seemed to enjoy the lesson. The tutor was very communicative and made sure to explain things clearly. After the trial lesson, we were happy with the experience and decided to continue with the tutor. We are optimistic that this tutor will be a great fit for our child's needs and look forward to seeing their progress.
Perfect! I contacted Adam to work on the fundamentals of music theory and composition, as I am hoping to go on to study an MA in composition. From the onset he has been incredibly focused, and has tailored his lessons to my specific needs very well. He has given me 'homework' tasks each week and we work on separate theory exercises together in our lessons. Whilst working on theory, I have noticed he is keen for me to not stay in my comfort zone and has set me a composition task - I really appreciate this as it may be the nudge I need to create a portfolio and get into a good composing routine!
Adam is also organised and communicates about the direction he wants to take with our lessons. He is approachable, has been willing to answer any questions I've had along the way and I am really looking forward to future lessons with him. I could not recommend him more to anyone looking to improve upon their music theory and composition.- ADAM's response :

Adam is a very patient and encouraging tutor, who gives you a lot of time and space to explore your thoughts. He is excellent at explaining music theory and ensures you have fully understood things before you move on. He is essentially a kind teacher!
Adam is a superb tutor - student led and flexible in his approach. Although Adam does teach formally, this style of teaching wasn’t for me and he has made sure that as well as improving my playing and furthering my theory, we are always working on songs that I love. In addition to his wealth of knowledge, Adam is also incredibly patient. Solid 5 stars.
Adam has been great! He’s broken down a lot of big concepts into easy to manage chunks and has made it easy to ask questions! Honestly finding it motivating to keep practicing!
Adam is an absolutely awesome Saxophonist and tutor. His sheer dedication to teaching my son how to play the saxophone has been incredible and is truly inspirational. Adam has taught my son every single week and is also flexible to accommodate last minute changes by offering lessons on a different day or time that week so the lesson is not missed completely. My son not only now loves playing and learning the saxophone but wants to be a musician when he is older and we only have Adam to thank for being his inspiration. Adam goes above and beyond with his dedication, passion and care to my son progressing to not only learning the saxophone but to performing at concerts and completing his grade exams. Thankyou
I couldn’t play the Saxaphone, now I can!
Adam is patient and a good teacher, listens to what I want to play and pushes me towards my musical goals!
Adam is incredibly patient and gently reassures my daughter that she can do it. He gives her the space to make mistakes and then correct them so that the learning is retained. You can tell he cares about his students and wants them to understand and share his passion for music.
Adam is lovely and patient, very open to changing the structure of your lessons depending on what you’re interested in progressing in, and he’s very knowledgeable about many varying areas of music and theory, so no topic ever feels out of bounds. It doesn’t feel like I’m following a strict syllabus as much as it feels like my learning is tailored to how I want to learn. My lessons are always fun and he always explains things in a very clear and concise manner, honestly just a fun time had by all and I enjoy my time very much
10000% recommendAdam is a great teacher! I had not played the saxophone for years but after one lesson we began a jazz piece and improvised together. He is brilliant at teaching practical skills and then bringing them to life
I really enjoyed my first lesson with Adam and would recommend him as a teacher. As an adult who is a beginner to the saxophone, starting lessons can be a bit daunting, but Adam was very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. He explained everything really clearly. He tailored the lesson well for my skill level and he picked a great song to work on! I’m looking forward to the next lesson already!
Adam is teaching our son saxophone grade 7 and also theory grade 5
His teaching methods are amazing and his easy going attitude brings out the best in our son.Adam is a very talented musician who has incredible ability to transfer the knowledge to his students and make them feel valuable. His classes in composition have not only improved my skills, but help me to believe in myself as a musician. He is very friendly, funny and always happy to make time for others.
Adam is a versatile and talented musician spanning saxophone, piano, clarinet, banjo and guitar. He is also an composer of classical music and has a huge knowledge of music theory. He is patient and efficient in lessons and has experience teaching all ages. Would highly recommend to anyone hoping to improve their music theory knowledge and application, whether at beginner or advanced level. 5/5
Incredible lessons, friendly approach, and patient when needed. Overall a great service and offers a broad range of knowledge. Not only patient with me, but also with my 5-year-old niece - so perfect for all ages! 5/5
Inspiring and very knowledgable and at the same time supportive with an abundance of patience. There is not much more you can ask from a teacher . As a mature beginner on sax I’ve been having lessons for nearly a year and have progressed well beyond expectations. It’s also been great fun -no hesitation in recommending Adam
Adam has a vast musical knowledge in all aspects of music theory! As well as being an expert in his field, he is a very patient teacher who aims for each student to achieve the best of their ability. Very professional and would definitely recommend!!
Adam is very friendly and approachable with an abundance of knowledge he cannot wait to share!
