About Willow

Music has always been my passion, and sharing that passion through teaching jazz guitar brings me immense joy and fulfillment. My journey began over a decade ago when I first picked up the guitar, and it quickly became an integral part of my life. Over the past five years, I've dedicated myself to not only mastering the instrument but also to understanding the depths of jazz a genre rich in history, emotion, and complexity. This dedication has fueled my desire to inspire others and help them unlock their own musical potential.

Teaching jazz guitar allows me to combine my love for music with my enthusiasm for helping others achieve their goals. There's nothing quite like witnessing a student have that "aha" moment when they finally grasp a difficult concept or nail a challenging improvisation. I am committed to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and ultimately grow as musicians. Each student's journey is unique, and I take great pride in tailoring my lessons to suit their individual needs and aspirations.

One of the aspects I love most about jazz is its emphasis on creativity and personal expression. In my lessons, I strive to ignite that same creative spark in my students. Whether it's through improvisation exercises, composing original pieces, or exploring modern beat-making, I aim to provide a comprehensive education that goes beyond technical proficiency. My goal is to help students find their unique voice on the guitar, enabling them to express their emotions and ideas through music in a way that is both authentic and compelling.

In our lessons, you will learn to navigate the intricacies of jazz guitar through a structured yet flexible curriculum. Whether you're a beginner looking to grasp the fundamentals or an advanced player aiming to refine your technique and expand your repertoire, I will provide the guidance and support you need. We'll explore a variety of jazz standards and contemporary pieces, dissecting their structures and harmonies to deepen your understanding of the genre. Additionally, improvisation exercises will help you develop your own unique voice on the guitar, enabling you to express yourself more freely and confidently.

Ear training and music theory are integral components of my teaching method. By developing your ear, you'll enhance your ability to recognize and replicate complex melodies and harmonies, which is crucial for improvisation and composition. Understanding music theory will provide you with a solid foundation, allowing you to make informed musical choices and compose original pieces with ease. Together, we'll delve into chord progressions, scales, modes, and rhythmic patterns, all of which are essential for mastering jazz guitar.
