About Avery
I’m a guitar teacher with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Studies. My teaching is centered around helping adult learners, especially those returning to music after time away. I understand how life can pull us in different directions, and how hard it can be to start again. That’s why I offer flexible scheduling and create a relaxed, judgment-free space where you can learn at your own pace. Whether you’re brushing off old skills or picking up the guitar for the first time, I tailor lessons to meet you where you are. We focus on building strong fundamentals while also exploring the music that inspires you. I believe that progress looks different for everyone, and there’s no single path to success. Some students want to read music, others want to write songs, and some simply want to play for joy—and all are welcome. With patience and clear guidance, I help you develop confidence, consistency, and creativity. I truly believe it’s never too late to start—or to play better than ever. My guitar teaching approach is structured, goal-oriented, and designed to support students preparing for exams and certifications. I focus on building a strong foundation in music theory and sight reading specifically for guitar. Classical fingerstyle technique is a key part of my lessons, helping students build control, tone, and precision. We follow a structured repertoire, tailored to the exam syllabus or certification path the student is pursuing. Each piece we study is chosen with purpose—to reinforce specific skills and prepare for performance with confidence.
I provide personalized feedback after every session, along with clear learning milestones so students can track their progress over time. My lessons support those who thrive with academic structure, offering a balance of technical discipline and expressive development.
For students seeking to expand their expressive range or explore advanced harmonies, I also incorporate elements of jazz theory and improvisation when appropriate. Every learner is different, and I adjust my methods to suit their strengths, goals, and learning style.
