About Dr Edward Wickstead
I am research and lecturing professor at Midwestern University in the United States. My research focuses on the role that inflammation has in the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. I moved to the United States in 2019, but all my formal education took place in the UK. I am originally from Essex, wherein I undertook both my GCSE and A level education. For A Level, I received A* and A grades in Chemistry and Biology, respectively. For my university education, I received first class honours in Biomedical Science at undergraduate level in 2014, prior to earning a Doctorate (PhD) in Neuroscience in 2019. I studied at King’s College London and Queen Mary, University of London, respectively. King’s College London is ranked 6th in Europe for Life Science and Medicine courses, whereas Queen Mary was voted 2nd in the UK for Medicine and 3rd for Dentistry in 2019. I have published 8 scientific articles in prestigious international scientific journals. I have developed and led several university classes during my time as an academic, including several tailored to neurodegenerative diseases and pharmacology. I have received several mentoring awards during this time.

I am a professor of Neuroscience and Pharmacology who currently works at Midwestern University in the USA. Originally from Essex, I graduated King’s College London with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science and a PhD In Neuroscience. Over the last 8 years I have taught a wide variety of students, from relative beginners to advanced-level students, of all ages. Due to this experience with diversity, I am well equipped at adapting my teaching style for the individual needs of each student, implementing several different revision and preparation techniques which I employed during my own studies at GCSE, A Level and University. All of my lessons currently take place over zoom. I pride myself on designing and developing lessons which are both engaging and informative, while following the exam board specification with extensive detail. As such, my lessons are planned around what is required as defined within the specification document for each exam board, which is available on their respective websites. My lessons primarily focus on the use of PowerPoint slides, consisting of a range of diagrams, questions and workflows that help to keep the tutoring sessions fresh and enjoyable, in parallel to enhancing memory retention. These lessons are similar to discussion-based seminars that you often see in smaller university courses. This helps students develop critical thinking skills, which are crucial in any STEM-based profession. In addition, I have a considerable stockpile of past papers and past-paper style questions to help students with their exam technique – a crucial skill that is often overlooked by both students and teachers. I also like to understand the career aspirations of my students so we can potentially organise a plan of action to help them become more attractive to colleges and/or universities. In summary, I have extensive experience in individual tutoring with iGCSE/GCSE, A Level, and University students. For all students, my emails are available 24/7 for continued support and advice throughout their learning journey. As a tutor, I want my students to reach their full potential, opening doors for their respective future endeavours.
Reviews
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience had by the students of Dr Edward Wickstead.
Perfect! Edward has been helping my son with GCSE Biology and Chemistry – he is brilliant! My son’s confidence has grown in the way he discusses and understands these 2 subject areas. Thanks for being such a great help!
Perfect! You're not having him - he's ours!!!!!! Wonderful calming teaching manner; full of enthusiasm for his subject. Does extensive research regarding the curriculum for your particular exam board and really prepares each lesson. Which sadly is lacking in so many tutors! Impeccable time keeping and communication (by no means a clock watcher). My daughter (3rd child /GCSE Year) unfortunately lost interest in science and now seems to actually enjoy her lessons, which is all down to Ed and his excellent teaching skills. Thank you Ed, your efforts did not go unnoticed and were certainly appreciated.

Edward is a great tutor who helped my son with combined science GCSE, particularly biology. My son has an autism diagnosis and does not always warm to tutors, or gets bored with them, but he enjoyed his sessions with Edward, and it definitely led to an improved grade compared to how he’d been doing in mocks. I highly recommend Edward to support you and your child - he was also very good at communicating, and flexible regarding occasional schedule changes.
Ted has proven to be a great tutor for my daughter who is studying for her GCSEs. Not only does he provide a thorough but flexible approach to covering off the required topics, he does so in a manner that engages her interest in the subject. I am sure the fact that they get on well with each other contributes to the successful outcome.
Thoroughly recommended.Really friendly and nice to talk with. Thank you for all your help Edward!
Edward is doing a great job in helping our son with his GCSE sciences and improving his grades to A-A* level. He prepares well for the sessions and follows up if there are any outstanding questions. I highly recommend him!
A1* we can highly recommend Ted. I have 3 children and have therefore had many tutors over the years and I can safely say that Ted is one of the best we have ever had! He is highly motivated and dedicated to getting the best from his students. He writes computer models to inspire and comes fully prepared for each lesson! Due to his enthusiasm for the subject, which he imparts with calm and patience, it rubs off and my daughter now loves science!!!!!!!
The endless support and encouragement from Edward is very good especially when in need of help it is sure to say he will help and take his own time away from tutorials to help.
He always made an effort to answer tutorial questions, if he didn't know the answer he would find it and get back to us the following week. Was welcoming and approachable to all students. All round literally perfect tutor
