About Richard
Richard is a freelance musician, educator, composer, orchestrator, and music producer based in Los Angeles. He completed a Bachelors of Music in Tuba Performance and Composition from Azusa Pacific University graduating cum laude. He continued his studies further at APU by completing a Masters of Music in Composition with the help of a performance assistantship graduating cum laude.
As a musician, he plays tuba and bass in all styles and loves collaborating with other like–minded musicians in creating new music. This love of music creativity also fuels his compositional interests. Although primarily trained in classical and jazz mediums, Richard enjoys learning about new music and has continued his music studies at LACC learning about Latin and West African music. This life–long learner mindset has enabled Richard to become an effective educator in teaching and growing students to become the best they can be.
As a music producer, Richard has recorded and mixed his personal projects and those of his students and peers. To improve on these skills, he went to LACC to complete a certificate in Music Technology and hopes to learn about cinema sound while growing in his other skills. Richard also maintains a private studio that offers both individual and group lessons.
Thankful for the opportunities and teachings given to him, Richard hopes to give back to his students as generously and aims to equip them with the skills they need to succeed in their creative/academic journey.

I teach beginning piano to anyone that has a desire to learn. I can teach classical, jazz, and pop genres, and how to read the proper music notation of those genres. My background as an educator has helped me learn to teach different ways of approaching piano pedagogy as we all learn differently, and therefore, need catered instruction.
If you are a non–piano player trying to pass your piano proficiency exam at a conservatory, or someone who has always wanted to pursue piano, but never had the time or had hesitancy to do so, I would love to assist you in fulfilling your goals. You will get a very solid foundation on piano.
